Scotland in Eurovision?

Oikotimes.com reports that the EBU has confirmed that Scotland can enter their own Eurovision entry, if they want to.

Under EBU rules any member of the union can submit an entry, opening the door from a possible entry by STV, Scotland's commercial broadcaster, or even BBC's own Scotland divison. The result for the historic nation comes after repeated pressure from SNP (Scottish Nationalist Party) MEP Alan Smyth, who's said "Other small countries have done it and I will be happy to help any of the broadcasting companies through the process".

Although this may seem a strange move, don't forget that in many international sporting events, like football and rugby, England and Scotland (along with Wales and Northern Ireland) compete as independent nations.

A spokesman for the SNP run Scottish government has said "there's no reason why we can't bring the idea of a song for Europe into our conversation on Scotland's future".

So if Scotland does go ahead with competing in Eurovision, will Wales and Northern Ireland follow?

Many people in forum's saying Scotland is not a country, only a state of the United Kingdom.

  3. Scotland should enter on its own. We'd have a great chance of winning seeing as we have not done anything to make other countries hate us. For example if you say you are english or british in France you will possible met with a hostile attitude however, mention your scottish and it is a whole different story.

  5. carl liverpool when you learn to write in you own language then perhaps we will listen to the crap spouting out your mouth.
Scotland deserves to be able to enter on their own as we are a nation perhaps not independant (not for want of trying) or do we just forget how you lot took over the country?

  6. Why should Scotland humiliate themselves by taking part in one of the biggest joke programs ever created for tv. Have we no pride left?

  7. Ithink Scotland, northern ireland and wales should break away frm united kingdom and go in the contest in there own just because when every 1 thinks of the uk they think of england and plus the other countries will have a better chance of winning :)

  8. East Midlands to enter too perhaps????

  9. I think that East Anglia should have its own entry too. If Scotland and Wales, why not East Anglia, the East Midlands and the South West!!!? Then we could all vote for each other and at leastone of us would win!!!

  10. I would hate it...Lets get something straight there is no point in scotland wales or any country in the UK doing it on their own because we are part of united kingdom and i dont think it is fair for the people in scotland who dont want it..no one seems to care about them. Im one of them. United Kingdom should stick together cause their is no point and TOGETHER we have great artists!

  11. Scotland should enter. We have lots of national pride and would have a great chance of winning. If we do it in sport why not in Eurovision.

  12. I am English but have lived in scotland for 17 years and I don't see why they can't enter as an independant country for Eurovision. The united Kingdom has not won in ages anyway, so maybe, like Ireland they might have a better chance.
